Bourbon with a Splash
Rain was falling at Bourbon & Beyond, but the music was playing and we kept ourselves warm at the Big Bourbon Bar where the Barrell Bourbon was flowing. We participated in two of the Bourbon+ panels - Joe Beatrice sat on the Art of Mingling and Blending moderated by Bourbon Authority Susan Riegler, and Tripp Stimson spoke about the malting process on the Cool Malts panel - and met up with our friends from Breaking Bourbon, Bourbon Pursuit and Bourbonr. To top it off, David Byrne's performance was amazing. We're looking forward to doing it again next year!
Premiering Soon We’re thrilled to finally announce the release of our new line of products, titled as our namesake, Barrell Craft Spirits. This project has been in the works for several years, and we've decided that it's time to share it with the world. Our intent is to blend a set of spirits defined by absolute balance and deep flavor layering. The barrels harvested for the first release were selected for their refined properties and extraordinary flavor profile. This fall we will be releasing a very small amount of three spirits: Barrell Craft Spirits Bourbon - a 15 year old blend of straight bourbons Barrell Craft Spirits Whiskey - a 25 year old American whiskey finished in Sercial Madeira barrels Barrell Craft Spirits Rum - a 13-21 year old blend of vintage rums Barrell Craft Spirits Bourbon is an exceptionally balanced bourbon. Our goal is to have a perfect union of grain and barrel. It has an old, oaky nose and a deep, honey-maple palate that reveals the lushness of the grain. At 25 years old, Barrell Craft Spirits Whiskey offers the depth of highly matured whiskey complimented by a Sercial Madeira barrel finish. The underlying dry nuttiness of Sercial Madeira adds a new dimension to the whiskey that is exceptional. The casks used for Barrell Craft Spirits Rum were on an Atlantic voyage that spanned almost a year before we got our hands on them. We selected equally exciting but drastically different barrels from Barbados, Jamaica and Guyana. We were so excited by these rums that it took us months to decide where to start with the blending. We could have done them on their own as single barrels, instead we experimented with countless combinations and came up with what we think is an outstanding blend of vintage rums.
New Year Bourbon It’s never too early to start getting ready for the holiday season. To toast the coming New Year, we’ve created Barrell Bourbon New Year 2019 Limited Edition, comprised of reserves from some of our batches and other choice barrels coming from 6 distilleries in 6 states. When blending the New Year release, we have the luxury of being able to consider any barrel we own. Over the course of the year, if we find a particularly inspiring young barrel or a barrel that we believe will make an interesting contribution to a blend, we'll set it aside. Generally, it's an outlier that has some flavor dimension that we find intriguing. When it comes time to blend, we'll do several test blends to find the combination we believe to be the best and most interesting from our barrel inventory, which makes the New Year blend a truly unique expression of the bourbons we owned this year. We believe that New Year 2019 captures the spirit of the holiday season, as our 2017 and 2018 Editions did. It should be available in stores beginning November.
