Breaking News We’re thrilled that both Barrell Bourbon Batch 018 and Batch 019 were included in Whisky Advocate’s 2019 Fall Buying Guide. Susannah Skiver Barton rated Batch 019 a 91 calling it “full and rich in the mouth, with fruit leather, blueberry-pomegranate juice, orange oil, ginger, pepper, dark chocolate, cola, molasses, and coconut. The finish is lengthy and superb: horehound candy, white pepper, dark chocolate-covered blueberries, and silky yet racy oak.” David Fleming rated Batch 018 a 91 and described it as a rich, classy bourbon with “a complex nose that starts out herbaceous and then opens to notes of saddle leather, buttered popcorn, pecans, dark cherry, orange tea, and fragrant vanilla. A rich, chewy palate offers vanilla cream pie, lemon, blackberries, corn muffin, and chocolate-covered coconut, balanced against some drying oak, an herbal note, and dried leaves. The finish is a long, balanced ride of chocolate, cinnamon, and tobacco leaf.”
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year The holidays are approaching and we have lots of great things happening between now and the end of the year. In 2017, we came up with the idea of blending a bourbon to celebrate the New Year, and we gave ourselves free reign to develop something to capture the spirit of the season. It was the first time we blended barrels of different ages with different mash bills from different states, and we had a lot of fun doing it. We’ve released our New Year edition every year since. This year Barrell Bourbon New Year 2020 is comprised of reserves from some of our batches and other choice barrels coming from 5 distilleries in 5 states. Deep and comforting wintery flavors of kirsch-spiked cocoa, mulled cider and Irish coffee lend tingly warmth to the opening. As bourbon rests on the palate, prickly alcohol invokes peach Bellini and meyer lemon. As it mellows, darker flavors of hazelnut, hickory, dried fig and grains of paradise expand. We believe New Year 2020 captures the spirit of the holiday season, as our previous editions did. For those of you who have asked, we've just released our second bottling of Barrell Craft Spirits Bourbon. This iteration is a very similar profile to the first release, with an old, oaky nose and a deep, honey-maple palate that reveals the lushness of the grain. We've been fine tuning this blend since January and it's finally here. This complex 15-year-old bourbon was blended and bottled at peak maturity so you can experience its true flavor. We’ll be bottling a selection of Canadian Rye barrels from one of Canada's leading distilleries. These 13-year-old barrels were distilled and aged in Canada, and then further aged in Kentucky. They were selected for their deep and vibrant flavor. We’re also offering a selection of 4-year-old Indiana Rye barrels produced by MGP. You can read more about our Single Barrel Program here.
